My introduction to writing computer programs was through a somewhat rigorous course at university. To be honest, I found MATLAB—the proprietary language the course was taught with—quite unfriendly. As a result, and perhaps quite prematurely, I decided that programming was not my thing.
I continued with my "dislike for programming" until I was writing my master's research project. The project required me to create an emission prediction model which I decided to build as a web app (in lieu of an Excel table). After lots of Googling and the constant badgering of a friend, I built the model. I was so proud of this feat that I attached the project's messy source to my final report.
This whole experience made me fall in love with the power software has in solving problems and easing up convoluted processes. It formed the foundation of my interest in designing and building applications.
In addition to the responsibilites of my current role, I am currently rebuilding (designing and developing) an old side project. The project, which involves the use of an IOT device to track power outage data around Lagos, was initiated in 2019 (Design, Demo)1.
1. The project was initially halted due to issues we had with our devices in 2019. ↩
